INTRO TO BALLET

Ages 16+

The Vibe: You are beginning your ballet journey, or you just want to revisit the basics. This class will introduce you to the fundamental technique elements, vocabulary, and procedures of ballet.

What to Wear: Any fitness or ballet attire.

BALLET BASICS

Ages 16+

The Vibe: Perfect for dancers who have completed Intro to Ballet or anyone looking to strengthen their foundation, Ballet Basics focuses on the essential techniques and building blocks of ballet—without the pressure of complex combinations.

This class is all about refining your understanding of the "how" and "why" behind each movement. We’ll break down key steps, transitions, and alignment so you can feel more confident, connected, and in control of your dancing.

Whether you're returning to ballet or want to deepen your technique, Ballet Basics will give you the tools to move forward with clarity and confidence.

BEGINNING ADULT BALLET

A class for dancers who are learning and refining the basics while looking to gain a stronger foundation of ballet technique. Barre, center, and across the floor exercises focus on proper alignment, core and leg strength, and flexibility in simple combinations.

Ages 16+

The Vibe: Ballet technique that honors the classical tradition while celebrating the beauty that is “all bodies are made to move."

What to Wear: Live your ballet-core fantasy: leotard, tights, and legwarmers, maybe a wrap sweater. OR leggings, shorts, and a t-shirt; whatever you like to move in. Ballet shoes or socks recommended.

NOT A BEGINNER...NOT QUITE ADVANCED

You have been rocking it out in Beginner Class, feeling confident, and now you’re ready for a new challenge. But you’re not quite ready for Intermediate/Advanced class. This class is perfect for that in between place – still focusing on solid fundamentals, but introducing new material, more complex patterns and more physically demanding work. This class is also perfect to supplement your Beginner or Advanced classes you are already enjoying.

Ages 16+

The Vibe: You know how to plié and tendu – even if you’re still working on how to spell them. You have been working hard in beginner class and you are ready for more material!

What to Wear: Keep wearing your favorite workout clothes or sweats. OR now is the time to invest in that cute leo and skirt you have had your eye on at Discount Dance.

INTERMEDIATE / ADVANCED BALLET

**Class held in the Susan E. Brackett Dance Center**

Designed for the dancer with at least 2-3 years of previous experience. This hour and a half class focuses on enhancing individual artistry and cultivating the dancer's technical level with increasingly complex combinations of steps.

Ages 16+

The Vibe: Ballet technique that honors the classical tradition while celebrating the beauty that is "all bodies are made to move." Also, don’t be surprised when people ask if you are a company dancer!

What to Wear: Do we even need to tell you? You are an expert at this point- wear anything from your extensive dance wardrobe!

Ever wanted to learn the dances you’ve seen in music videos, viral clips, or all over the internet? This class is your chance.

Each week we’ll break down an iconic dance or famous choreography moment—from legendary pop stars like Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, Michael Jackson, and Lady Gaga to viral dances trending on TikTok and social media.

No professional dance experience required. Just come ready to move, laugh, and channel your inner pop star.

TEEN CONTEMPORARY FLOORWORK & ACRO

**Class held in the Susan E. Brackett Dance Center**

This class is less about gymnastics and more about learning how to get on and off the floor without negotiating with gravity. Whether you want to feel more athletic, improve flexibility, add some spice to your contemporary choreography, or simply impress your friends at parties, this class might be for you.

Movement will be taught by Director of Community Engagement Erica Portell, with a focus on individualized progressions, safe mechanics, body awareness, and contemporary floorwork skills. You probably won’t leave class doing a back handspring — but you will leave with new tools for getting to and from the floor in creative, innovative, and graceful ways.

Ages 12-18

The Vibe: Curious dancers who want to move more athletically, explore floorwork, and expand their movement vocabulary.

What to Wear: Any dance clothes or fitness attire that allows you to move comfortably. Bare feet or socks are recommended.

“Slick your hair and wear your buckle shoes” –it’s time to get jazzy! Work on jazz technique, leaps, turns, kicks, and combos to great music in this all levels class. Previous jazz experience recommended.

Ages 16+

The Vibe: Break out those black fishnets and jazz shoes then slick on your red lip. Or wear any dance or fitness wear that makes you smile! Jazz shoes, ballet shoes, or socks are fine.

What to Wear: Whether prepping for your Broadway debut, dancing to the latest hits, or just perfecting the perfect hip roll and hair toss- this class has it all!

The Vibe: You tapped as a kid or you’ve always wanted to try.

What to Wear: Really, “Anything Goes” – channel your inner Savion Glover with some cool baggy pants and graphic tee, or keep it classic with any dance/ fitness clothes. And, of course, tap shoes.

PERFECT PIROUETTE

All levels welcome!

Whether you’re working toward your very first turn or polishing beautiful doubles, triples, and beyond, this class is for you. We’ll break down the ingredients of a smooth, controlled pirouette—strength, coordination, balance, alignment, and clean spotting—and help you blend them into your personal turning “recipe.” Expect focused drills, technique training, and turning exercises tailored to your level, all designed to build confidence and consistency.

Oklahoma City Ballet is excited to announce an Adult Summer Intensive unlike any other! Classes will be challenging, fun, and adaptable to various experience levels--all presented inside the iconic Susan E. Brackett Dance Center (home of Oklahoma City Ballet) by our world-class faculty.

Our Philosophy:

Oklahoma City Ballet Community Engagement is committed to access, equity, and inclusive pricing policies. In addition to our many free community programs, we offer sliding scale pricing for our paid community classes. With each class listing, “Minimum Value” indicates the lowest amount to pay for class. “Class Value” is the full cost of the class. You may select either value or any amount between those two numbers to pay for class.

If you would like to pay more than the Class Value, any surplus goes toward supporting our free and low cost Community Engagement Programs.
