John was born in Wellesley, Massachusetts but started training in Columbia, South Carolina at Columbia Ballet School before attending the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities. He then attended Kansas City Ballet School before moving to Salt Lake City to join Ballet West’s trainee program. He joined Oklahoma City Ballet's Studio Company during the 2024/25 season.
