Sarah Jane Stropes trained at the American Academy of Dance in Houston, Texas and was a member of Regional Dance America pre-professional company Houston Dance Theatre. She also trained on scholarship at various summer intensives. She joined Tulsa Ballet II in 2007, and was promoted to Tulsa Ballet’s main company in 2009.
Since joining Oklahoma City Ballet in 2012, Stropes has performed in Sarah Tallman’s If These Walls Could Talk, Jiří Kylián’s Petite Mort, and Robert Mills’ The Means To Fly, Swan Lake, and The Nutcracker. Her repertoire also includes feature roles such as Myrtha in Giselle, Dark Angel in George Balanchine’s Serenade, Tall Girl in Balanchine’s Rubies, Bagheera in Toni Pimble’s Mowgli – The Jungle Book Ballet, and Alaskan Rag in Sir Kenneth MacMillan’s Elite Syncopations.
During the 2018/19 season Stropes performed as Alice’s Legs in Septime Webre’s ALICE (in wonderland) while pregnant, and performed Balanchine’s The Four Temperaments only four months after giving birth to daughter, Regina.
