John Fry received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance from The Ohio State University, where he became interested in the ballet world. He began accompanying ballet classes at BalletMet in Columbus, Ohio, not knowing that ballet would become a career. Since then, he has worked with major ballet companies and educational institutions across the country, including Atlanta Ballet under the direction of John McFall, Houston Ballet under the direction of both Ben Stevenson and Stanton Welch, and The University of Oklahoma School of Dance under the direction of Mary Margaret Holt.
As an educator, Mr. Fry has offered Music for Dancers classes, incorporating Dalcroze Eurythmics, for all of the above company-associated schools. He also recruited, trained, and scheduled pianists for Atlanta Ballet’s Center for Dance Education and the Houston Ballet Academy. He has appeared as piano soloist in ballets such as Eliot Feld’s Intermezzo, Kurt Joos’ The Green Table, Antony Tudor’s Fandango, and Mary Margaret Holt’s Elegie and Piazzola. Additionally, he was a member of the Atlanta Ballet Orchestra, where he was also Personnel Manager.
Mr. Fry enjoys the creative and innovative atmosphere of the Oklahoma City Ballet and is happy to be a part of this exciting time in the company’s history.
