David Ward is delighted to be joining Oklahoma City Ballet for the 2019/20 season productions of Michael Pink’s Dracula and Robert Mills’ Romeo and Juliet. David is currently a guest artist having joined companies performing lead roles in productions across the USA.
David was born in London, England where he received his early training, attending The Royal Ballet School programs, National Youth Ballet and later graduated from the English National Ballet School. He joined Northern Ballet in Leeds, England in the summer of 2005 as a company dancer and was promoted to soloist in 2008. While there, he excelled in the narrative works of David Nixon, Kathy Marsden, Massimo Morricone, Gillian Lynne and toured extensively across the UK and Asia and was honored to perform for Prince Edward. He then moved to the US and joined Balletmet in Columbus, OH where he was a leading dancer for seven years. He originated roles in many world premier creations including Prince in Edwaard Liang’s Cinderella and James Kudelka’s Rite of Spring. He performed leads in much of Balletmet’s diverse classical and contemporary repertoire including the works of George Balanchine, Jerome Robins, Michael Pink, Edwaard Liang and Christopher Wheeldon.
Some of his most memorable performances include the title roles in Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Peter Pan and Dracula. Siegfried in Swan Lake, Franz in Coppélia, Prince Désiré in The Sleeping Beauty and the Cavalier in The Nutcracker.
As a guest, David was honored to perform in the International Ballet Stars Gala Indianapolis, IN, with Victoria’s Secret in Las Vegas, NV. He is a dance teacher and coach as well, and enjoys working with students across the US and the UK. He and his wife, former dancer Emily Gotschall will serve as co artistic directors for the Yellowstone Dance Project in Bozeman, MT summer 2019.
